Baghdad, the Capital of Innovation and a Beacon of Knowledge… A Workshop at the University of Mosul Highlights the Civilizational and Historical Role of the Capital

The Central Library, in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning at the Presidency of the University of Mosul, held a workshop on Sunday, November 30, 2025, titled “The Civilizational and Historical Role of Baghdad.” The event aimed to shed light on Baghdad’s pivotal status since its founding and to explore its cultural, political, and scientific legacy, which has made it one of the most influential cities in Arab and Islamic history.

The workshop discussed the political dimension of the capital, highlighting Baghdad’s role as the seat of one of the most powerful authorities in the region’s history and a center for shaping regional and international policy across different eras. It also addressed the scientific dimension, noting that Baghdad historically served as a magnet for scholars, thinkers, and students from around the world, becoming a beacon of knowledge and a hub for research, authorship, and translation—an intellectual laboratory whose influence extended across centuries.

Through such activities, the University of Mosul reaffirms its commitment to reviving the civilizational memory of one of the greatest Arab and Islamic capitals and to promoting awareness of cultural and historical identity, thereby strengthening the connection of present generations to their intellectual roots and enduring heritage.
