Dryland and Conservation Agriculture Research Center Continues Its Scientific Progress with Field Experiments for the 2025–2026 Winter Season

The Dryland and Conservation Agriculture Research Center, through its Genetic Resources Department, continues to implement its research activities for the 2025–2026 winter season as part of its scientific plans aimed at developing agricultural crops and enhancing their ability to adapt to dryland farming environments.
The center’s fields hosted two field experiments:
• The first involved evaluating genetic lines of lentil crops received from the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA).
• The second experiment focused on planting and assessing two varieties of lupine.
These activities fall within the center’s efforts to improve agricultural productivity by identifying crop varieties with superior genetic traits and greater adaptability to local climatic and environmental conditions, thereby supporting breeding and selection programs and strengthening the sustainability of dryland and conservation agriculture systems in Iraq.
This research effort aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 2 (Zero Hunger) through the development of more productive crops suitable for dry environments, and Goal 13 (Climate Action) by enhancing the resilience of agricultural systems to climate change impacts.
