Official Statement from the University of Mosul Regarding the Incident at the Female Dormitories

The administration of the University of Mosul is closely monitoring what has been circulated on social media regarding the incident involving one of our female students in the university dormitories. In this regard, the University wishes to clarify the following facts:
Based on the initial investigations and medical reports, it has been determined that the incident occurred due to personal negligence when the student attempted to refill a kerosene heater, during which her clothes became contaminated with fuel. As she tried to ignite the stove, the flames suddenly ignited, resulting in localized burns to her hands only.
The University also confirms that the dormitory supervisor immediately reported the incident, and the student was promptly transferred to the Burns Hospital to receive medical treatment. She is currently in stable condition, with minor injuries, and is under medical observation.
Footage from the dormitory surveillance cameras confirms the accuracy of the sequence of events and the procedures taken inside the dormitory.
The University categorically denies the existence of any gas leakage. Maintenance teams and Civil Defense conducted a comprehensive inspection of the rooms and the gas system, and the results showed no malfunction or leakage whatsoever, confirming that the incident was not related to any technical problem.
The University of Mosul urges everyone, especially social media users—to verify information and rely on official sources, and to refrain from spreading rumors that may cause harm to the student, her family, or her colleagues.
The University administration reaffirms its strong commitment to student safety and continues to review and develop safety procedures within the dormitories to maintain a secure residential environment for all.
