University of Mosul Highlights Challenges of Electronic Addiction and Proposes Scientific Solutions to Mitigate It

The Continuing Education Unit at the Center for Regional Studies at the University of Mosul, in collaboration with the Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit, held a scientific workshop titled “Electronic Addiction: Causes and Prevention Methods” on Wednesday, December 3, 2025. The workshop was attended by faculty members, staff, and graduate students. The goal of the workshop was to raise awareness among participants about the dangers of electronic addiction, highlight its health and social effects, and provide scientific methods to reduce its spread, in line with the university’s efforts to support relevant sustainable development goals.
The workshop addressed the main causes of electronic addiction, including excessive use of smartphones, video games, and social media applications. It discussed the negative effects of this addiction, such as poor academic performance, reduced social interaction, and deteriorating mental health. The session also reviewed a range of preventive solutions, such as time management, the role of family in positive supervision, stress management skills, and promoting alternative activities.
The workshop concluded with recommendations emphasizing the need to enhance community awareness of responsible technology use, implement continuous training programs to prevent electronic addiction, and support a sustainable and safe educational environment. This aligns with the achievement of sustainable development goals 3, 4, 10, 11, and 12.
