University of Mosul Highlights the Impact of Turkish Dams on Water Resources in Iraq Through a Scientific Workshop

On Monday, December 1, 2025, the Dam and Water Resources Research Center at the University of Mosul held a scientific workshop titled “The Impact of Turkish Dams and Climate Change on Water Resources in Iraq”. This workshop is part of the university’s academic efforts to study water issues and address the escalating challenges associated with them.
The workshop discussed the impact of dams built on the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and their contribution to the reduction of water flow to Iraq. It also explored the consequences of climate change, including the increasing rates of desertification, shrinking agricultural areas, and declining vegetation cover.
The workshop resulted in several recommendations and insights, focusing on the development of strategic plans for water resource management, seeking agreements that ensure fair water shares with Turkey, implementing modern irrigation techniques in agriculture, and raising public awareness on the importance of water conservation.
This workshop is part of a series of specialized scientific activities led by the University of Mosul to support decision-making and offer practical research solutions to mitigate the impacts of the water crisis and water scarcity in Iraq.
