University of Mosul Leads the Academic Scene by Achieving First Place in Counter-Extremism Projects

The University of Mosul proudly announces a distinguished academic achievement within the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s National Project for Countering Violent Extremism, as the graduation research titled “The Iraqi National Security Strategy in Confronting Intellectual and Electronic Extremism and Terrorism” has won first place among the top five research projects across Iraqi universities for the academic year 2024–2025.

The research was conducted by student Thamer Suleiman Younis from the College of Political Science, under joint academic supervision by Asst. Prof. Dr. Marwan Salem Ali and Asst. Prof. Jasim Mohammed Taha, with collaboration from the Human Rights Division at the Presidency of the University of Mosul. This achievement reflects the integration of scientific and research efforts within the university in producing studies that enhance intellectual security and counter extremism.

The student and the supervising team were honored during the Graduation Projects Conference on Countering Violent Extremism, held in Baghdad at Al-Mansour Hotel on Thursday, 4 December 2025, in the presence of the Iraqi National Security Advisor Mr. Qasim Al-Aaraji, the Deputy Minister of Higher Education for Research and Development Affairs Prof. Dr. Lubna Khamees Mahdi, and a distinguished group of academic and security leaders.

The student and the supervising committee extend their sincere appreciation to the President of the University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Wahid Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, for his continuous support; to Prof. Dr. Abdulrahim Ibrahim Jasim, the Assistant of the President for Scientific Affairs, for his follow-up; to Dr. Saeed Khudida Al-Sanjari, Head of the Human Rights Division at the university presidency, for his support; and to the Human Rights Unit at the College of Political Science for their scientific efforts that contributed to the success of this project.

The University of Mosul reaffirms its commitment to supporting rigorous research and strengthening its national role in combating extremism, promoting peace, and upholding human rights.
