Humanities Studies in the Age of Artificial Intelligence… An International Conference at the College of Arts, University of Mosul

 

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Arts, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Taie, the activities of the 12th International Scientific Conference of the College of Arts were launched under the title “Humanities and Social Studies in the Age of Artificial Intelligence toward Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.” The conference is being held over two days, December 17–18, 2025, with wide participation from academics and researchers from within Iraq and abroad. The opening ceremony was attended by the President of Al-Hadbaa University, Professor Dr. Badee Ali Ahmed, and the President of Mardin Artuklu University in Turkey, Professor Dr. Ibrahim Özcoşar, along with a distinguished group of specialists and those interested in academic and research affairs.

The opening proceedings began with the Iraqi national anthem, followed by the recitation of Al-Fatiha in honor of the martyrs’ souls, and a blessed recitation from the Holy Qur’an. This was followed by a speech by the President of the University of Mosul, in which he welcomed the guests and participants, praising the efforts exerted to restore the university to its leading position and renowned excellence. The opening also included a documentary film showcasing the university’s journey of transformation and recovery after the war, culminating in achieving advanced positions in global university rankings.

The opening ceremony featured a high-level dialogue session that brought together the President of the University of Mosul and the President of the Turkish university, addressing the role of humanities studies as a fundamental pillar in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and the importance of scientific research in this field at both academic and societal levels. A theatrical artistic performance was also presented, portraying the departments of the College and highlighting their applied outputs and their connection to the labor market.

Following that, the scientific sessions of the conference commenced, during which researchers discussed rigorous academic papers aligned with the conference themes and objectives. These papers sought to present innovative scientific approaches to employing artificial intelligence technologies in understanding and analyzing human and social phenomena, thereby strengthening the role of academic research in addressing contemporary challenges and serving society.
