University of Mosul and RAWANGA Foundation Launch RAWANGA Forest Project to Plant 3,500 Trees on Campus

 

In a steady step toward fostering environmental sustainability, the University of Mosul, in collaboration with the RAWANGA Foundation, launched the second phase of the RAWANGA Forest Project on Monday, December 22, 2025. The project aims to plant 3,500 trees on the hillside of the College of Veterinary Medicine within the university campus. The launch ceremony was attended by Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, Mr. Hasan Sheikh Alaa Al-Din, Executive Director of the RAWANGA Foundation, along with active participation from the university’s agricultural division staff, teams from the College of Agriculture and Forestry, as well as engineers and workers from the foundation, and a number of university council members and distinguished academic figures.

In his speech, the university president emphasized that this collaboration reflects a national and humanitarian message, symbolizing the unity and solidarity of the Iraqi people in building a better future. He commended the RAWANGA Foundation’s choice of the University of Mosul to execute this vital project, which contributes to enhancing vegetation cover based on sustainable principles.

On his part, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Alaa Al-Din, Executive Director of the RAWANGA Foundation, expressed his pride in collaborating with such a prestigious academic institution like the University of Mosul. He highlighted that the RAWANGA Forest Project primarily aims to serve the Mosul community and the academic environment. The campaign began with the planting of the first saplings by the university president and the executive director of the foundation, underscoring the university’s ongoing efforts to transform its campus into a green oasis that contributes to improving the local environment and reducing carbon emissions
