President of the University of Mosul Inaugurates Two Scientific Laboratories at the College of Engineering in Support of Innovation and Sustainability

 

Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, inaugurated on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, the Engineering Innovation Laboratory and the Autonomous Aircraft Laboratory, in addition to the Environmental Garden and the Skills Development Laboratory at the College of Engineering. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr. Haider Al-Saadi, Advisor to the Prime Minister; Dr. Mousa Al-Mousawi, Head of the Academic Affairs Committee of the Permanent National Committee for Community Awareness and Guidance at the Prime Minister’s Office; and Assistant Professor Dr. Faris Mahdi Alwan, Director General of Private Education. The event was held under the supervision of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Omar Mohammed Hamdoun, with the participation of a number of faculty members and researchers.

In his speech, the President of the University emphasized that these laboratories represent an important strategic step toward strengthening the University’s scientific infrastructure and supporting its academic and research mission. He highlighted their role in supporting graduation projects for undergraduate and postgraduate students, providing a stimulating environment for innovation, and enhancing scientific cooperation with academic and industrial institutions inside and outside Iraq.

The Engineering Innovation Laboratory, the Autonomous Aircraft Laboratory, and the Skills Development Laboratory at the College of Engineering aim to develop the skills of students and researchers in the fields of technological innovation and to support applied research related to artificial intelligence technologies and intelligent systems, thereby contributing to the preparation of engineering graduates capable of meeting labor market requirements. In parallel, the Environmental Garden—established in line with the requirements of the global GreenMetric rankings—seeks to enhance environmental awareness and support sustainability and environmental protection research by providing a practical educational space that links theoretical knowledge with modern environmental practices within the university campus.
