College of Dentistry Commemorates the National Day of the Holy Quran

Within the framework of reinforcing Quranic and humanitarian values in the university environment, the University Psychological Counseling Unit, in cooperation with the Media and Government Communication Unit at the College of Dentistry – University of Mosul, held an awareness lecture on the occasion of the National Day of the Holy Quran, which falls on the twenty-seventh of Rajab each year.
The awareness event included a lecture delivered by Professor Dr. Mohammed Salih Al-Jubouri, in which he shed light on the significance of this blessed occasion, explaining that on this day the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was sent with the Islamic message to all humankind—as a caller to God, a bearer of glad tidings, a warner, and a radiant guiding light—and as a confirmer of the divine scriptures revealed before it, such as the Torah and the Gospel. He also emphasized that the Holy Quran was revealed to serve as a complete way of life, instilling the values of goodness, blessing, mercy, and tolerance among all people.
The lecturer further indicated that commemorating the National Day of the Holy Quran represents an important milestone for consolidating the principles of knowledge, reflection, contemplation, understanding, and peace, which Islam has brought to the entire world.
The lecture was attended by the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Assistant Professor Dr. Neam Riyadh Saleem, along with a number of faculty members and students at the College, reaffirming the College’s support for awareness-raising activities aimed at consolidating religious and cultural values within the academic environment.
This awareness lecture, organized by the College of Dentistry at the University of Mosul, represents a significant embodiment of integrating spiritual values with modern developmental objectives. An analysis of the content of the event shows that it intersects, both directly and indirectly, with several of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
1. Goal 4: Quality Education
This is the most prominent goal reflected in this activity, as the lecture:
Contributes to expanding the concept of education beyond technical curricula (Dentistry) to include value-based and cultural education.
Promotes the principles of “knowledge, reflection, and understanding” as fundamental tools for building the character of university students.
Reinforces the notion that the university is not merely a place for obtaining academic degrees, but a beacon for disseminating culture and social awareness.
2. Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions
The lecture explicitly focused on the values of “tolerance, mercy, and peace,” which constitute core pillars of this goal:
The Qur’anic call to adopt the Holy Quran as a “way of life” that fosters peace among people contributes to strengthening inclusive and peaceful societies.
Commemorating shared human values plays a role in reducing conflicts and promoting a culture of dialogue.
3. Goal 5: Gender Equality
This goal is reflected in a practical and institutional manner through:
Women’s leadership: The presence and patronage of the Dean of the College (Assistant Professor Dr. Neam Riyadh Saleem) underscore the role of women in leading major academic institutions and managing intellectual and religious discourse.
