Dr. Mai Abdel Hafez Abdel Qader, Dr. Riyad Mahmoud Salih, and Assistant Lecturer Nada Younis Taher (staff members at the Environment Research Center) attended a discussion session entitled “Pollution of the Tigris River” held by the Persevering for Good Foundation for Environment and Development in cooperation with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) (Recovery Program). Which was held in the Engineers Association hall on Thursday, January 12, 2023, with the aim of increasing advocacy efforts on the pollution of the Tigris River in Mosul.
Dr. Mai Abdel Hafez delivered a lecture entitled (Pollution of the Tigris River…. What next?!) in which she dealt with some proposals to deal with river pollution and identify the parties that have the most influence on the river file, as well as the important role of the responsible authorities in this matter, and stressing the development of awareness and education programs to protect the river and limit The meeting stressed the need to activate the role of the environmental police, enact some laws, and set penalties and fines for anyone who tries to tamper with or throw waste into the river.
