The Environmental Research Center holds a scientific symposium on the national initiative to support energy and reduce emissions.

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Qusay Kamal Al-Din Al-Ahmadi, and under the supervision of Dr. Saba Khair Al-Din Al-Taie, Director of the Environmental Research Center, the Center, in cooperation with the Nineveh Environment Directorate and the Colleges of Science and Environmental Sciences, held a scientific symposium entitled (The National Initiative to Support Energy and Reduce Emissions) today, Tuesday, 11/5/2024, in the Scientific and Literary Forum Hall/University of Mosul, attended by the Assistant President of the University for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, representing the President of the University, and in the presence of a delegation from the Ministry of Environment, including Dr. Amer Obaid Saud, Assistant Director General of the Planning and Follow-up Department, Mr. Anam Thabet Khalil, Head of the National Awareness Team for Energy Support, Assistant Director General of the Environmental Awareness and Media Department, and Mr. Raad Hamza Kazim, Head of the Relations Department in the Environmental Awareness and Media Department. It was also attended by Eng. Sinan Subhi, Director of the Nineveh Environment, in addition to a number of deans of colleges, researchers and academics in the field of the environment, as well as employees and officials of the University of Mosul, in addition to civil society organizations. The symposium included several valuable scientific lectures by the lecturers, where experts in the fields of energy and environment presented a set of valuable presentations and interventions. A lecture was given by the Assistant Director General of the Planning and Follow-up Department, Dr. Amer Obaid Saud, on the importance of applying the sustainable development goals in rationalizing energy.

This was followed by a research lecture by Dr. Hamid Abdullah Saleh on the role of green energy in reducing emissions. The next lecture was entitled “Environmental Activities of Some Foreign Companies Operating in Iraq/Oil Companies as an Example” by Dr. Riyadh Mahmoud Saleh (a lecturer at our center), in addition to a working paper by Ms. Nour Abdul Ghani and Mr. Sufyan Hisham on the uses of renewable energy.

The symposium concluded with an emphasis on the need to enhance environmental awareness and adopt sustainable energy practices as a basic step towards achieving balanced environmental development in Iraq. The participants also called for continued cooperation between all concerned parties to ensure the implementation of the recommendations reached, which contributes to improving the environmental reality and achieving the desired goals in preserving the environment and enhancing sustainability.
