Environmental Research Center holds a scientific symposium on desertification and resistance plants.
Under the patronage of the President of Mosul University, Prof. Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi and under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Saba Khair Al-Din Ibrahim, Director of the Environmental Research Center and in cooperation with the Center for Dry and Portfolio Research, the Center held on Monday 16 December 2024 a scientific symposium entitled (Desertification and Resistance Plants: Environmental Solutions) in the hall of the Scientific and Literary Forum / Mosul University attended by the President of Mosul University and a good elite of University professors and teachers. The symposium aims to shed light on the risks of desertification and its negative effects on humans and the environment in general, how to limit those effects by planting trees and plants that are resistant to drought and the use of rated irrigation mechanisms and how to benefit from harvesting rain water for irrigation and soil stabilization. The seminar’s curriculum included an opening speech by Assistant Professor Taha Ahmed Al-Tayyar (Teaching at the Environmental Research Center), in which he explained the risks of desertification and its interrelationship with climate changes and water scarcity. Then the lectures began for the session whose president was d. Ali Bashir Aziz and its decision: Dr. Zakaria Nafeh Mahmoud Shehab, where the first lecture was entitled (Human, Economic and Environmental Development in the Reconstruction of Almarai Project) delivered by the Director of the Center for Dry Agriculture Research and Portfolio Prof. Dr. Abdul Sattar Asmir Al-Rajbo, followed by a lecture entitled (The Impact of Exploitation | The unfair groundwater on increasing signs of desertification in Nineveh Governorate) delivered by Dr. Riyad Mahmoud Saleh (teaching in our center). It was followed by a third lecture entitled (Flora Nineveh, Economic, Hereditary and Environmental Returns) delivered by Prof. Dr. Salem Hammadi Antar (teaching at the Center for Dry and Preservative Agriculture Research) As for the fourth lecture, it was entitled (Drought-resistant plants and their role in the face of desertification) delivered by A.M. Nahla Salem Hamouk, then the lectures were concluded with a lecture given by M. Nada Younis Taher, which was titled (The measures taken to protect the environment from desertification), and finally the recommendations for that symposium were made through a speech delivered by the Director of the Center for Dry Agriculture Research and the Portfolio Prof. Dr. Abdul Sattar Asmir Al-Rajbo. At the end of the symposium, certificates of participation were presented to the participants in delivering the symposium’s lectures.
