The Environmental Research Center continues to provide training lectures for students of the College of Environmental Sciences and Technologies

In line with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), the Environmental Research Center at the University of Mosul continues its summer training program for students of the College of Environmental Sciences and Technologies. A series of scientific lectures were held in the center’s laboratories on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.

The lectures were delivered by Assistant Professor Nahla Salem Hamouk and Assistant Lecturer Amna Faris Farhan, and addressed specialized scientific topics directly related to current environmental challenges.

The first lecture, titled “Environmental Pollution by Chemical Pesticides,” addressed the ways in which these substances enter the environment and their effects on humans, animals, and plants, in addition to their accumulation in food chains. The most prominent types of pesticides used locally and globally were also reviewed, while addressing chemical control methods aimed at reducing their environmental impacts and random applications.

The second lecture focused on “Water Quality Analysis.” It included an explanation of methods for collecting water samples from multiple sources and conducting physical and chemical tests to determine properties such as electrical conductivity, temperature, and levels of toxic elements such as lead and mercury. The importance of measuring pH and alkalinity as indicators of carbonate balance and the effects of carbon dioxide was also explained, along with the importance of calcium and magnesium for human health and plant growth.

These activities are part of the Center’s commitment to enhancing students’ practical and cognitive skills, equipping them with the skills necessary to understand and scientifically analyze contemporary environmental issues.
