The Environmental Research Center at the University of Mosul holds a seminar on the use of heavy industrial waste and radiation protection
The Environmental Research Center at the University of Mosul held a seminar titled “The Use of Heavy Industrial Waste to Improve the Performance of Radiation Shields” on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Ali Bashir Aziz, Head of the Pollution Control Department.
The lecture addressed the idea of utilizing materials resulting from industrial waste in the design and implementation of radiation shields, as an alternative to traditional heavy and expensive materials such as lead.
The seminar aimed to reduce environmental pollution resulting from the accumulation of industrial waste in nature, as well as reduce the costs of producing shields. He emphasized that these efforts are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
