On Thursday, October 30, 2025, the Environmental Research Center at the University of Mosul concluded its five-day training course within the Continuing Education Program, with the participation of a number of researchers and those interested in environmental issues.

The final day featured a scientific lecture by Dr. Raghad Hashim Al-Mallah entitled “Solid Waste in Iraqi Cities: Between Neglecting its Management and the Necessity of Integrating it into the Environmental Accounting System.” During her lecture, she addressed the reality of solid waste management in Iraqi cities and the negative effects of neglecting it on the environment, public health, and the urban landscape.

She explained that the absence of effective waste management policies has contributed to exacerbating pollution levels and increasing economic burdens. She emphasized the importance of integrating waste management into the environmental accounting system to calculate environmental costs and improve resource efficiency.

The final day included an evaluation survey for participants via Google Classroom to assess their understanding of the scientific and training lectures presented during the course. This was followed by a final assessment test to measure the participants’ comprehension of the lectures.

At the conclusion of the event, Assistant Professor Dr. Saba Khair Al-Din Ibrahim, Director of the Center, and Mr. Omar Khader Jumaa Shalawi, Director of the Nineveh Environment Directorate, distributed certificates of participation to the attendees, commending their active engagement and constructive interaction throughout the course
