The Environmental Research Center at the University of Mosul held a workshop on protecting society from electronic devices.

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Saba Khair Al-Din Ibrahim, Director of the Center,
In solidarity with International Human Rights Day ،the Environmental Research Center at the University of Mosul held a scientific awareness workshop entitled “The Dangers of Electronic Blackmail and its Effects on Society” on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
The workshop was organized in cooperation with the Sustainable Development Unit, the Women’s Affairs Unit, and the Human Rights Division at the University Presidency.
The lecture was presented by Assistant Lecturer Fadia Abdulhameed Saleh.
The workshop addressed the challenges facing society, starting with children’s addiction and their exposure to violence and bullying, moving on to women targeted by digital blackmail and the threat to their family lives, and ending with men falling prey to rumors or digital infidelity. All of this contributes to the disintegration of society and the rise in divorce rates. The solution is not in banning devices, but in building a “wall of digital awareness” through strong legislation, parental control, and comprehensive awareness programs, to transform technology from a destructive burden into an obedient servant for conscious individuals. Electronic blackmail was also discussed.
The workshop addressed cybercrimes, which are considered among the most dangerous, where blackmailers exploit electronic means to threaten individuals for material or moral gain. The use of social media platforms has made this type of crime the most common, highlighting the importance of raising awareness about methods of prevention and digital protection.
At the end of the workshop, a certificate of participation was distributed to Assistant Lecturer Fadia Abdulhameed Saleh from the College of Tourism Sciences.
This workshop comes within the framework of the scientific efforts made by the center in line with achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 4 (Quality Education), and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
