The Role of Gene Banks in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals and Supporting Intellectual Property.

The Environmental Research Center held a workshop on 30/4/2026 entitled “The Role of Gene Banks in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals and Supporting Intellectual Property.”Presented by Asst. Prof. Nahla Salem Hammook, a faculty member at our Center.”

The workshop highlighted the importance of gene banks in preserving the genetic diversity of plants and animals, as well as their role in strengthening food security and promoting environmental sustainability.

It also addressed the contribution of gene banks to achieving several Sustainable Development Goals, including Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), Goal 13 (Climate Action), and Goal 15 (Life on Land). Furthermore, the workshop discussed the role of gene banks in supporting intellectual property through the documentation and legal protection of genetic resources, ensuring the rights of researchers and institutions, and fostering innovation in agriculture and biotechnology within sustainable legal frameworks.

The Environmental Research Center – University of Mosul, in cooperation with the University Presidency / Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit, organized a specialized scientific seminar entitled: “Water Quality Assessment of Al-Khosr River: Pollutants and Treatment Methods”
