The Environmental Research Center at the University of Mosul organized a scientific discussion seminar entitled “Edible Coatings”, presented by Dr. Sahar Adnan Sheet, on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, with the attendance of researchers, academics, and individuals interested in environmental and food-related issues.

The seminar addressed the concept of edible coatings and their importance in preserving food quality and extending shelf life, as well as their role in reducing the use of conventional plastic materials and minimizing environmental pollution. The lecturer also highlighted the main natural materials used in the production of edible coatings, including proteins, starches, and plant-derived substances, in addition to their modern applications in the food industry.

The seminar emphasized the importance of supporting scientific research that contributes to the development of environmentally friendly technologies and promotes sustainability concepts in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being,
Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production,
and Goal 13: Climate Action.

The seminar witnessed active participation through scientific discussions and questions that enriched the topic and highlighted the importance of adopting sustainable environmental alternatives.
