The Environmental Research Center at the University of Mosul Concludes a Training Course on “Sustainable Food Security”

On Sunday, May 4, 2025, the Environmental Research Center at the University of Mosul concluded a training course titled “Sustainable Food Security.”

The course began with a scientific lecture by Assistant Professor Nahla Salem Hamouk, titled “Food Security Strategy in Arab Countries.” The lecture addressed the most prominent policies and plans adopted by Arab countries, including the Kingdom of Bahrain, to address the challenges threatening food security. Hamouk emphasized the importance of continuing to address climate change to ensure the provision of safe, healthy, and sustainable food.

This was followed by a lecture by Assistant Professor Taha Ahmed Al-Tayyar, titled “Food Security and Climate Change: Intertwined Crises,” which reviewed the interplay between rapid population growth and the decline of agricultural areas, as well as the challenges related to water resources. Innovative solutions in this context, such as rainwater harvesting techniques and the cultivation of drought-resistant crops, were also highlighted.

The third lecture, presented by lecturer Dr. Raghad Hashim Al-Mallah, was titled “Economic Policies and Their Impact on Achieving Sustainable Food Security.” She addressed the mechanisms by which economic factors influence food availability, accessibility, stability, and quality, particularly in light of increasing political, economic, and environmental challenges.

At the conclusion of the course, participants were given an assessment test to measure their level of understanding of the lectures and training materials. This was followed by the distribution of certificates of participation to participants and lecturers, presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Saba Khairuddin Al-Taie, who praised the level of interaction and valuable contributions that enriched the academic discussions throughout the course.
