I Am Malala

This is an autobiographical book written by the Pakistani teenager activist and Noble Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, co-written with Christina Lamb, translated into Arabic by Anwar Al-Shami and published by the Arab Cultural Center Publishing House and Library (Casablanca, Beirut:2014).In her book, Malala tells the story of her struggle and that of other girls to achieve their rights to education and raise her voice on behalf of millions of oppressed girls around the world to realize their educational potential.Malala starts telling her childhood and upbringing in her hometown, the Swat Valley in Pakistan before it was controlled by the Taliban who prevented girls from education, and closed schools by force. As a reaction to this catastrophic situation, Malala, the fifteen-year-old girl agreed with her father to use his contacts with the BBC Channel to allow Malala to communicate her community’s voice and suffering to the world. Owing to non-compliance with their threats, the Taliban shot Malala in the head as she was returning home from school. Fortunately, she was survived, taken to hospital, and rescued, and then she was taken to the United Kingdom secretly for better medical care. After her recovery, many media channels conducted interviews with her to expose the Taliban’s oppressive and arbitrary practices and infringement of her people’s rights to life, liberty, and education.Aya Walid HamdunPlastic ArtistMosul#Share_your_Readings
