(The History of Mosul)

It is the first-ever historical book on the City of Mosul, written by Sheikh Abi Zakaria Yazid Bin Muhammad Al-Azdi Al-Mawsili (334 AH / 945 AD), the first historian who wrote about Mosul. The book was published by Dar Al-Arab – Dar Noor Houran (Damascus: 2016) and reviewed by Dr. Ali Habiba. It is the original source of all historical information regarding the City of Mosul. It was a basic source for many historians like Ibn Al-Atheer, Ibn Khaldun, Al-Dhahabi and others. It has the particular historical information of the City of Mosul, its people and the events they have been through, showing the general Islamic history during the rule of the Umayyad and Abbasid governments. So, according to its reviewer, the book is “a general history from the viewpoint of one of Mosul citizens, whose interest was raised by some historical incidents that have affected his city’s life, and he sincerely and enthusiastically recorded them in greater detail”.It is worth mentioning that only the second part of the book was published because the first and third parts are missing. This part covers Mosul’s history from 101 to 224 AH / from 719 to 838 AD.The book is of utmost importance and it is really worth reading and owing.Dr. Ahmad Muyassar MahmoodCentral LibraryUniversity of Mosul#Share_your_readings
