Within the initiative to build partnerships between the University of Mosul Library and other local and international institutions within the University Library Restoration Project adopted by the UNESCO Iraq Office and funded by the Italian Agency for Development and Cooperation (AICS) in cooperation with the Ministry
of Higher Education and Scientific Research, a delegation, headed by the President of the University of Mosul Prof. Dr. Kossay Alahmady, visited the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland, UK, accompanied by the Secretary General of the University of Mosul Libraries Mr. Sayf Al-Ashqar; the University Library Restoration Project Director Mr. Humam Talal within the UNESCO Iraq Office team; and the International Organizations Division Head in the Scholarships and Cultural Relations Department Dr. Muwafaq Sachit together with the Library and Informatics Development Division Head Mr. Marwan Abdulrazaq in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The delegation was taken on a tour in the Ulster University campuses in Coleraine, London Derry and Belfast, as well as the Northern Ireland Parliament. During the visit, the hosts expressed their appreciation for the distinguished presence of the delegation and for the achievements made at the University of Mosul.
The purpose of the visit was to enhance and expand collaboration between the two universities and to take a look at the library work at the University of Ulster. Training workshops were held for the visiting staff of the Central Library by library specialists under the supervision of Dr. Jessica Bates. The workshops addressed how to meet the needs of library users, information skills and information literacy, developing virtual library resources, strategic planning and public policy for libraries, and disaster planning. At the end of the workshops, the Technical Procedures Division Official Ms. Rawa Salahudin, the Computer Systems Division Official Ms. Heba Khairudin, and Ms. Saja Abdulkarim were awarded training program certificates by the Director of Ulster University Libraries Ms. Janet Peden. The Secretary General of the University of Mosul Libraries Mr. Sayf Al-Ashqar, was also awarded a certificate in library management and strategic planning management.
