Technical Procedures Division:
It is one of the most important technical divisions in the Central Library, responsible for processing information resources and preparing them for use. It aims to organize information resources according to the latest bibliographic standards, which contributes to facilitating access to them by users.
Importance of the Division
The Technical Procedures Division contributes to the development of Central Library services by ensuring the organization and updating of information resources according to the latest standards. This facilitates access to them by users and enhances the Central Library’s role as a major center for information and knowledge.
Units and Functions:
Acquisition Unit:
It is responsible for acquiring various resources according to a selection policy that meets the needs of users and the Central Library’s development plan.
Donation and Exchange Unit:
It receives international and local publications donated through cooperation with academic institutions and research centers.
Cataloging and Classification Unit:
It receives and classifies books and resources received from the Acquisition Unit and catalogs them according to the latest international bibliographic description rules, such as RDA and MARC 21. Subject-based cataloging is also performed using the 23rd edition of the Dewey Decimal Classification and the Standard Arabic Subject Headings list developed by Shaban Abdulaziz Khalifa. This contributes to the efficient organization and retrieval of information.
Collection Maintenance Unit:
It is responsible for book restoration and conservation that involves returning old or damaged books, periodicals or manuscripts to as close to new condition as possible with the use of various specialized techniques.
