A new book entitled “Research, development and productivity” by Dr. Nawfal Qasim Ali Al-Shahwan, Assistant Professor of Economic Development – Head of the Economic and Social Studies Department at the Regional Studies Center at the University of Mosul, issued by the Noor Publishing Foundation in Sharjah (in cooperation with the SRL company in Moldova) in November 2019 .. Printed at Books on Demand GmbH in Norderstedt, north of Hamburg, Germany.The book (which is No. 11 in the series of the author’s products) aims to draw the dimensions of the described image – from one side and the perspective – from another side to the reality of Arab scientific research beside the forward-looking image of the near future by analyzing the reality of the relationship between the output and academic and/or applied field scientific research, development, change and the scientific, productive and material advancement.The subject methodology, on its cover, stated that it assessed the direct effects of local (R&D) capital on the productivity of the total elements of the (TFP) measured from a mathematical-standard model developed by the study, with a unique initiative and a practical contribution at the global level that provides a suggested way to derive and estimate direct and indirect effects of (R&D) capital on production and productivity growth, these effects are embodied in changes (improvements or regressions) of technical efficiency of the work and technical changes (improvements or obsolescence) of productive capital invested in production.The experimental applications of the mathematical model have discovered exciting measures and striking effects in four Iraqi manufacturing industries: cement, spinning, weaving; printing, and sulfur. Interpreted by the transitional stages in technological transformations and internal developments with spectacular negative and positive images and trends also were verified by statistical tests and applied analyzes by the management of mentioned industries, and with real evidence.Descriptive variables in circulation (not found in statistical databases) could be supplemented typically and embodied empirically independently. The material of this book was recorded at the Iraqi, Arab and global levels. This methodology can be applied to macroeconomics, all sectors, and to all developed and developing countries alike. It is an achievement that the University of Mosul has to be proud of, and it is at the forefront of economic studies, on the Arab and global level.
