Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Qusay Kamal Al-Din Al-Ahmadi, President of the University of Mosul, the Department of Political and Strategic Studies at Regional Studies Center held the electronic scientific symposium titled (the American withdrawal from Afghanistan and its impact on the Middle East), on November 28, 2021, with the participation of a group of professors and researchers specialized in regional and international affairs from outside and inside Iraq.The objective of the symposium is to describe and analyze the dimensions of the United States withdrawal from Afghanistan after two decades of the American occupation of this country after it was unable to end the influence of the Taliban movement that regained power. Hence, this event must have its effects that will cast a shadow sooner or later on the Middle East.The symposium included a discussion and analysis of the following topics: Reasons and motives for the American withdrawal from Afghanistan: force trap. The American withdrawal from Afghanistan: a change in the American military strategy or a phased turnover. The United States of America and the credibility of its alliances in the Middle East after the withdrawal from Afghanistan. The future of the US military presence in Iraq after the withdrawal from Afghanistan. The American withdrawal from Afghanistan and its impact on the Arab Gulf states. Russia’s opportunity to increase its influence in Afghanistan after the American withdrawal. A reading of Iran’s position on the American withdrawal from Afghanistan. The impact of the American withdrawal from Afghanistan on the Turkish policy towards the Central Asian republics.
