A Workshop by Regional Studies Center on Iraqi Affairs and International Political Transformations

Regional Studies Center held a workshop entitled “The Iraqi Affairs and International Political Transformations “, on March 6, 2022. During which the Center hosted Prof. Dr. Ahmad Rushdi Al-Darghazli (the doctor and professor of immunology at the University of Baghdad College of Medicine) and the head of the (House of Iraqi Expertise Foundation) in Baghdad, and the political advisor in the Iraqi Parliament to talk and share what aspects of his lecture touched upon; and the comments and responses to them by the researchers of Regional Studies Center.The workshop aimed to analyze the internal political, economic, and social conditions of Iraq in light of the October 2021 elections, and to emphasize serious cooperation to shift towards standards of efficiency, sobriety, and integrity to achieve the advancement of state institutions and the management of its affairs.The workshop touched on the Iraqi political situation and the turmoil in it as a result of reaching a state of political impasse due to the inability to achieve a quorum for Parliament to hold the session of the Iraqi Council of Representatives to vote on a candidate for the presidency of the republic following the constitutional entitlements and deadlines to complete the sovereign positions. The workshop also involved the dimensions of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and its international and regional effects on the political and economic levels; and what opportunities that the Iraqi political decision-maker must search for to maintain balanced relations with the two countries to ensure its economic, political, and security stability.
