Regional Studies Center Holds a Scientific Symposium on Efforts to Empower Women in Iraq

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Qusay Kamal Al-Din Al-Ahmadi, and on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Public Policies Department at Regional Studies Center at the University of Mosul, in cooperation with the Center for Women’s Studies at the University of Baghdad, held an electronic scientific symposium titled (Efforts to empower women in Iraq between available opportunities and imposed restrictions ) on March 8, 2022.The symposium aimed to review the reality of Iraqi women and the efforts exerted in the legal aspects issued by the legislative and executive authorities to advance the conditions of women, achieve the principle of equal opportunities, provide ways to reconcile their responsibilities in the family and work to motivate them to take initiative and enhance their role as an effective partner in various social, economic, cultural and political fields.The symposium included working papers and research contributions that shed light on the challenges facing efforts to empower women in Iraq and present opinions, ideas, and treatments that would support the continuation of these endeavors and overcome the difficulties they face. The research papers involved the following topics :Empowering women during conflict; A reading of the role of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Iraq; Empowering women between the constraints and catalysts ; Women between the injustice of law and society; Attempts to Westernize Muslim Women; The extent of the effectiveness of legislation in empowering Iraqi women ;Gender and its role in women’s affairs; Sustainable development and its indicators for women and society; The working Iraqi woman between the hammer of law and the anvil of society; The reality of Tunisian women after a decade of revolution: constraints and opportunities in politics, law, and the media; Obstacles to empowering leading women; What prevents women from being a leading entity? ; Iraqi women’s contemporary social problems and the most critical solutions to advance their reality; Indicators of women’s empowerment in the developmental fields, reality and aspirations; Women between rights and duties; Activating the vital role of women in the Iraqi judiciary; Iraqi women and their role in political life a year later; Legal protection for women between international conventions and the practical reality of national law.
