Regional Studies Center Holds a Seminar on Sustainable Urban Transport System
Regional Studies Center held an expanded seminar entitled “Sustainable Urban Transport System between Theory and Practice: Mosul City as a Case Study” delivered by Assist. Prof. (Ubai Muhammad Al-Wattar) and (Assist. Lect. Muhammad Jamal Hamdoun) – College of Administration and Economics, University of Mosul, on, November 12, 2023. It was attended by the director and members of the Regional Studies Center; the dean and administrative and scientific assistants of the College of Islamic Sciences; the director and members of Al-Rushd Community Center for Studies; and the director of the Remote Sensing Centre; Some people are interested in this matter.
The seminar aimed to shed light on several relevant concepts, including the concept of sustainable urban development, the sustainable urban transport system, and other aspects, focusing on the current reality of the transportation system in the city of Mosul.
The seminar addressed several topics, including the concept of sustainable urban development and its dimensions; what is meant by a sustainable urban transportation system, and what are the practical requirements; what are the demographic and residential features and spatial expansion of the city of Mosul; what is the relationship between this and the need to have a system for transporting people in the city that is consistent with the requirements of sustainable urban development?; what is the current image of the personnel transportation system in the city of Mosul; what is the official and social mechanism that contributed fundamentally to bringing this system to its current state?; what are the most prominent investment distortions that resulted from it and have not disappeared? ; then what is the radical solution to the worsening transportation crisis in the city of Mosul in the short, medium, and long term?
In conclusion, solutions and recommendations in this regard were reviewed, and the seminar witnessed interventions and discussions that enhanced its topic.
