Regional Studies Center Organizes a Scientific Workshop on Intellectual Foundations of Extremism

Regional Studies Center conducted a scientific workshop entitled “The Intellectual Foundations of Extremism: Feeders and ways to dry them up” by Prof. Dr. Mithaq Khairallah Jalloud, Director of the Center, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Faris Turki Mahmood, Head of the Department of Economic and Social Studies at the Center, on November 13, 2024.
The workshop aimed to identify the premises of extremist ideas and the factors that cause them, as well as treatments and methods of drying up their incentives.
The workshop discussed the phenomenon of extremism and radicalization, which is escalating and increasing in various parts of the world and constitutes a danger that must be confronted and addressed. The workshop addressed the pillars on which the structure of extremism is based, including the biological, geographical, historical, political, and economic pillars and how they interact with each other ultimately leading to the production of extremist ideology and fuels and sustaining it and then manifests itself in the form of extremist organizations, social unrest and security threats. It also highlighted the most important ways and means to dismantle the structure of extremism through government and social programs, in addition to the role of educational institutions, curricula, and cultural and social events.
