Regional Studies Center Hosts Seminar on Opportunities and Challenges for Iraq’s Development Road

Regional Studies Center / Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit at the University of Mosul, organized a seminar entitled “Iraq and the International Development Road: Opportunities and Challenges”. The session was delivered by Assist. Lect. Fawzi Mohammad Saleh on Sunday, February 22, 2026, in the presence of a distinguished group of academics, researchers, and interested participants. The event aimed to highlight the developmental and economic dimensions of the project.

The seminar reviewed the strategic importance of the International Development Road and its role in strengthening Iraq’s position as a regional logistical and commercial hub. It also outlined opportunities for upgrading infrastructure, stimulating investment, and generating employment. The project was linked to key Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Decent Work and Economic Growth (8), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (9), Sustainable Cities and Communities (11), and Partnerships for the Goals (17). The speaker also addressed challenges related to financing, institutional coordination, and legislative stability, emphasizing the need for long-term strategic planning.

The seminar concluded by stressing the importance of integrated national efforts and strengthened local and international partnerships to ensure the project’s success and to achieve comprehensive, sustainable development that serves both the economy and society.
