Regional Studies Center Held a Seminar on Hakan Fidan and his Role in Turkish Political Life

Regional Studies Center held a seminar for the research entitled “Hakan Fidan and his role in Turkish political life 2003 – 2023”, presented by assistant lecturer “Fawzi Muhammad Al-Abadi” on May 5, 2024.
The seminar aimed to address the character of Fidan, who is described as the keeper of Erdogan’s secrets or the shadow man. He is also called Erdogan’s striking hand and is known internationally as the man that Israel fears. By officially assuming the position, he has become the second foreign minister with a military background since the beginning of modern Turkey. During his reign, the Turkish intelligence service witnessed a major qualitative shift, and it moved from a flabby apparatus surrounded by internal disputes from all directions to one of the strongest and most powerful intelligence agencies in the world.
The seminar reviewed two topics: The first discussed his upbringing and career aspects: A- Birth B- Study and the jobs he held, then resigning from intelligence and running for elections. The second section sheds light on his role in many internal issues (his role in combating the Kurdistan Workers’ Party – his role in the coup of July 15, 2016) and foreign affairs (his role in policy towards Iraq – Israel’s position on his appointment as Turkish Foreign Minister).
