Regional Studies Center Holds a Seminar on Social Stigmatization of Drug Addicts
Regional Studies Center held a seminar entitled “The Social Stigmatization of Drug Addicts and Ways to Confront it Socially” on November 27, 2024. The seminar aimed to highlight the negative effects of social stigmatization on addicts and their families and the importance of creating a supportive environment that allows them to reintegrate into society.
Participants discussed three main themes: First, the impact of social stigma on recovery and rehabilitation; second, the role of the media in shaping the mental image of addicts; and finally, ways to promote social acceptance through awareness-raising initiatives and psychosocial support programs.
The seminar emphasized the necessity of complementary work between governmental institutions and civil society to change the negative perception of addicts. The discussions concluded with recommendations calling for increased community awareness and the development of comprehensive rehabilitation programs to reduce stigma and enable addicts to regain their normal lives.
