Regional Studies Center Holds a Scientific Symposium on the Repercussions of Al-Aqsa Flood on the Middle East

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Wahid Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, and the supervision of the Director of Regional Studies Center, Prof. Dr. Mithaq Khairallah Jalloud, The Regional Studies Center/Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Presidency of the Mosul University/Studies and Planning Department/Sustainable Development Unit, organized its (62) scientific symposium entitled “The Middle East after the Al-Aqsa Flood: Implications and Prospects” on Sunday, April 20, 2025.

The symposium aimed to analyze the repercussions of Al-Aqsa Flood operation and its effects on the Palestinian cause and the regional and international situation. It also sought to study the Arab, regional and international reactions and assess the resulting political, security and humanitarian developments.

The symposium came in three main themes, including the political, security, and humanitarian dimensions. Prof. Dr. Mithaq Khairallah Jalloud started the symposium with an analytical opening lecture entitled “The repercussions of the Al-Aqsa flood according to strategic calculations”, followed by two scientific sessions that included research papers that discussed the positions of countries and international institutions on the recent events, the role of the Palestinian resistance, as well as the field and humanitarian situation in Gaza. The first session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Luqman Omar Mahmood, and included a paper entitled “The International Criminal Court and the Zionist aggression on Gaza” presented by Prof. Dr. Imad Khalil Ibrahim, and a paper entitled “The Position of the Arab Gulf States on the Al-Aqsa Flood” by Prof. Dr. Hashim Abdul Razzaq Saleh, then a paper entitled “The Al-Aqsa Flood and the Arab Position” presented by Assist. Prof. Dr. Fawaz Muwaffaq Thanoon. The second session was chaired by Assist. Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Khalaf Al-Taie, and included a paper entitled “The American position on Al-Aqsa Flood” presented by Assist. Prof. Dr. Faris Turki Mahmood, followed by a paper entitled “The impact of Al-Aqsa Flood on the Israeli interior” presented by Prof. Dr. Omar Faisal Mahmoud, and a research paper entitled “Al-Aqsa Flood Motives, Objectives and Effects on the Palestinian cause”. Dr. Faris Turki Mahmood, followed by a paper entitled “The Impact of the Al-Aqsa Flood on the Israeli Interior” presented by Assist. Prof. Dr. Omar Faisal Mahmood, and a research paper entitled “ Al-Aqsa Flood Motives, Objectives and Impacts on the Palestinian Cause”, presented by Assist. lecturer Ahmad Khalid Ahmad.

The symposium concluded with recommendations that focused on activating international legal tools, strengthening Arab and Islamic solidarity, and a call to intensify media and human rights efforts to convey the suffering of the Palestinian people to the world.
