Regional Studies Center Holds a Scientific Lecture on Employing Artificial Intelligence to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals

As part of its efforts to enhance knowledge and exchange expertise, the Regional Studies Center organized a scientific lecture titled “Employing Artificial Intelligence Methods and Sustainable Development Goals” on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. The lecture was delivered by lecturer Abdulghafour Waadallah Al-Shamma, with the attendance of a number of academics, researchers, and interested individuals.

The lecture addressed the role of modern technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), in supporting the achievement of sustainable development goals such as eradicating poverty, clean energy, and industry and innovation. Al-Shamma emphasized that AI serves as a vital tool for analyzing complex data and making precise decisions, thereby enhancing the efficiency of developmental projects.

The lecturer also discussed the ethical and social challenges associated with the use of these technologies, calling for their responsible application to ensure comprehensive development without neglecting humanitarian considerations.

So the lecture achieved several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which can be summarized as follows:

1- Goal 4: Quality Education by holding a scientific lecture, promoting knowledge and exchanging experiences, as the lecture contributed to spreading education and knowledge on a vital and modern topic.

2- Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

By addressing the role of artificial intelligence as a tool for innovation and industrial and technical development, the lecture reinforced the importance of modern technology in building smart infrastructures.

3- Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy

The lecturer referred to the role of artificial intelligence in achieving clean energy, which directly links the lecture to this goal.

4- Goal 1: No Poverty

The lecture addressed the use of AI in supporting poverty eradication projects by improving the efficiency of development programs and initiatives.

5- Goal 16: Achieve Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

By discussing the ethical and social challenges associated with modern technologies, the lecture highlighted the importance of responsible and fair use of technology, in order to promote justice and good governance.

6- Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals

Engaging academics, researchers and interested parties in the debate highlights the role of partnerships and cooperation between different parties to achieve sustainable development.

At the end of the event, the floor was opened for discussion, with attendees enriching the session with their contributions and inquiries.
