Regional Studies Center Participates in Commemoration of the Yazidi Genocide

As part of ongoing efforts to promote justice and peaceful coexistence, staff from the Regional Studies Center at the University of Mosul participated on Sunday, August 3, 2025, in a solidarity gathering organized by the university to commemorate the Yazidi genocide committed by terrorist groups in 2014.

The event aimed to shed light on the suffering of this deeply rooted Iraqi community, to preserve collective memory, and to encourage both the academic and student communities to adopt a humanitarian discourse that rejects extremism and fosters a culture of tolerance. Participants raised banners condemning the horrific crimes committed against the Yazidis and emphasized the importance of supporting national and international efforts to achieve justice for the victims and to rebuild affected areas.

Speeches delivered during the event stressed the importance of highlighting human rights issues through academic research and analysis, reaffirming the university’s role in educating future generations about national unity and rejecting hatred.

This initiative reflects Sustainable Development Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, by promoting social peace, respecting human rights, and advancing the principles of justice and accountability.
