New Scientific Research Published by a Scholar at Regional Studies Center in Scopus

A new scientific paper by Abdulgafour W. Abdulgafour, faculty member at the Regional Studies Center, has been published in Scopus. The paper, entitled “A Hybrid Deep Learning Model for Facial Emotion Recognition: Combining Multi-Scale Features, Dynamic Attention, and Residual Connections”, appeared in the Proceedings of International Conference on Applied Innovation in IT (Vol. 13, Issue 2, pp. 69–77, June 27, 2025), it is accessible via https://www.scopus.com/sourceid/21100901570.
The study highlights the challenges of recognizing human facial expressions, given their subtlety and complexity. It proposes an innovative deep learning framework that integrates multi-level feature extraction, dynamic attention mechanisms, and enhanced residual connections. Experimental results demonstrated an overall accuracy of 96.1%, along with notable improvements in precision, recall, and F1-score—underscoring the model’s significant contribution to the field of affective computing.
This achievement marks an important advancement for Iraqi research in artificial intelligence, with promising future applications in mental health assessment, human-computer interaction, and adaptive user interfaces. Furthermore, the research aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals, including Good Health and Well-being (Goal 3), Quality Education (Goal 4), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (Goal 9), and Partnerships for the Goals (Goal 17), reinforcing the vital role of scientific research in serving communities and fostering sustainable development.
