Regional Studies Center Holds a Seminar on Zionist Ambitions in As-Suwayda

Regional Studies Center at the University of Mosul organized a seminar titled “A Humanitarian Corridor or a Strategic Gateway… A Reading in Zionist Ambitions toward As-Suwayda”, by Assist. Prof. Dr. Batool Halil Jubair, on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
The seminar aimed to shed light on the reality behind what is being promoted as a “humanitarian corridor” in southern Syria, and to explain how this concept is exploited in Zionist discourse as a means to achieve strategic gains serving expansionist projects and weakening the social and political fabric of the region.
The seminar’s content included an in-depth analysis of the dangers of using the humanitarian dimension as a cover for fragmenting communities, with references to historical comparisons of similar projects that used so-called “humanitarian corridors” as tools of domination. The lecturer stressed the need to strengthen academic and media awareness of such schemes, affirming that As-Suwayda is not merely a geographic area, but a crucial component of the Syrian resilience equation in the face of encirclement and infiltration attempts.
The seminar concluded with recommendations emphasizing the importance of linking research studies with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal (10) on reducing inequalities, Goal (11) on sustainable cities and communities, and Goal (16) on peace, justice, and strong institutions.
