Regional Studies Center Celebrates International Geodiversity Day

As part of the Regional Studies Center – University of Mosul’s contribution to the global celebration of International Geodiversity Day, observed annually on October 6, the Center organized a scientific seminar on Monday, October 6, 2025. The event addressed the importance of geodiversity, its role in understanding the Earth’s nature, and its connection to development and regional relations.
The seminar featured three scientific papers:
- The Historical Geology of Iraq by Assistant Lecturer Nazzal I. Ali
- Iraq’s Geology and Its Impact on Infrastructure by Assistant Lecturer Lilav D. Mohammad
- Regional Geology and Its Role in Iraq’s Regional Relations by Assist. Prof. Dr. Tareq Mohammad Tayeb Dhahir
- The session included fruitful scientific discussions highlighting the diversity of Iraq’s geological formations and their influence on development, as well as the geopolitical dimension of geodiversity in shaping regional relations.
This event is part of the Center’s scientific and community activities aimed at promoting awareness of the importance of natural diversity in supporting sustainable development and strengthening scientific engagement with international efforts in this field.
