Regional Studies Center Explores Prospects for Employing Artificial Intelligence in Advancing Research Methodologies

Regional Studies Center at the University of Mosul held a seminar on Sunday, 23 November 2025, titled “The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Scientific Research”. The seminar was delivered by Lecturer Abdul-Ghafour Wadallah Al-Shammaa, with the attendance of a number of academics, researchers, and specialists. The event aimed to highlight the role of artificial intelligence in advancing scientific research and to familiarize researchers with key modern technologies that enhance the quality of academic studies and accelerate analysis and inference processes.

The seminar addressed the latest smart applications in data collection and analysis, as well as methods for employing machine-learning models to support social, humanistic, and scientific studies. It also discussed the ethical considerations surrounding the use of artificial intelligence and emphasized the importance of developing research capacities capable of keeping pace with rapid technological advancements. The session saw active participation from attendees, who contributed remarks underscoring the need for continuous training and the development of a supportive research environment within universities.

The seminar stressed that strengthening the use of artificial intelligence contributes to the university’s efforts to achieve several Sustainable Development Goals, including Goal 4 Quality Education, Goal 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth, Goal 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, Goal 10 Reduced Inequalities, and Goal 17 Partnerships for the Goals. It further emphasized the need to continue adopting these technologies to ensure high-quality research and foster innovation.
