Regional Studies Center Holds a Lecture on the Regional Environment and Scourge of Drugs

As part of its academic efforts to promote community awareness, Regional Studies Center at the University of Mosul organized a scientific lecture titled “The Regional Environment and the Scourge of Drugs: Risks and Impacts on the Individual and Society” on Wednesday, November 26, 2025. The event was held at the Center’s Hall with the participation of a group of researchers and interested attendees.
The lecture was delivered by Prof. Dr. Mithaq Khairallah Jaloud, who discussed the key regional factors contributing to the growing trade and use of narcotics, as well as their health, social, and economic effects on individuals and communities. He also addressed the security challenges associated with this phenomenon and stressed the importance of enhancing regional cooperation to confront it.
The speaker emphasized the need to support community awareness programs and to develop effective national policies to curb the spread of drugs, highlighting the role of scientific research in building sustainable preventive strategies.
This lecture comes within the Center’s efforts to advance several Sustainable Development Goals, particularly:
