Regional Studies Center Staff Participate in ‘Grass of Mercy’ Tree-Planting Initiative at Mosul University

In compliance with the directives of the esteemed President of the University of Mosul, staff members of the Regional Studies Center participated on Thursday, November 27, 2025, in the voluntary “Grass of Mercy” initiative by carrying out tree-planting activities within the university grounds, in support of efforts aimed at expanding green spaces and promoting environmental awareness.

This participation reflects the University of Mosul’s commitment to fostering a culture of volunteerism and enhancing the campus environment in a way that contributes to creating a sustainable, healthy, and supportive educational atmosphere. Participants emphasized that the initiative represents an extension of the university’s broader programs dedicated to strengthening environmental development, reducing pollution, and increasing green coverage—encouraging students and the university community to adopt environmentally friendly practices.

The initiative aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals, supporting Good Health and Well-being (Goal 3) through improving the campus environment, promoting Quality Education (Goal 4) by enhancing students’ environmental awareness, and contributing to Sustainable Cities and Communities (Goal 11) through the expansion of green areas. It also reinforces Climate Action (Goal 13) and Life on Land (Goal 15) by protecting plant diversity within the university campus.

The “Grass of Mercy” initiative reaffirms the University of Mosul’s commitment to its environmental and social mission and strengthens its leading role in supporting green initiatives that contribute to building a more sustainable and prosperous future.
