Regional Studies Center at the University of Mosul organized an academic seminar entitled “The Formation of Iraq’s Next Government and the Regional and International Environment” on Sunday, 21 December 2025, with the participation of a select group of professors, researchers, and specialists in political affairs and international relations.
The seminar addressed the most prominent internal challenges related to the political process, particularly the outcomes of the elections, the balance of political forces, and the requirements for governmental stability. It also examined the impact of regional and international variables on the course of forming the next government, including the roles of neighboring countries, the repercussions of regional conflicts, and shifts in the positions of key international actors toward Iraq.
Participants emphasized the importance of adopting a realistic national approach that takes into account Iraq’s supreme national interests, enhances the capacity of the incoming government to manage security and economic challenges, and achieves balance in foreign relations, thereby ensuring the sovereignty of national decision-making and responding to citizens’ aspirations.00
At the conclusion of the seminar, discussions produced a set of recommendations underscoring the role of research centers and academic institutions in supporting decision-makers through scientific analysis and the provision of strategic insights at this pivotal stage in Iraq’s history.
