Regional Studies Center

As part of the activities of Regional Studies Center / Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit, and the Human Rights Division at the Presidency of the University of Mosul, the Director of the Center, Assist. Prof. Dr. Tareq Mohammad Tayeb Dhahir, delivered an awareness-raising scientific workshop at the College of Agriculture and Forestry entitled “Human Rights: A Responsibility of Every Individual in the University Environment.” The workshop was held on Monday, 22 December 2025, with the participation of a number of faculty members, students, and those interested in academic affairs and human rights.

The workshop addressed the concept of human rights and their importance within the university environment, viewing it as a cognitive and educational space that contributes to building awareness and consolidating human values. It emphasized that respect for rights is not limited to legal frameworks alone, but rather constitutes a shared moral responsibility borne equally by students, faculty members, and university administration.

The lecturer highlighted the role of students in respecting diversity and rejecting violence, the responsibility of faculty members in promoting justice and equality and encouraging dialogue, as well as the role of university administration in providing a safe environment that guarantees academic freedoms and equal opportunities. The workshop also discussed the particular context of the University of Mosul in the post-conflict phase, stressing the importance of human rights in supporting campus peace and preventing the resurgence of extremism.

The workshop featured interactive discussions and contributions from participants, underscoring the importance of translating human rights principles into daily practices within the university campus, in a manner that fosters coexistence and mutual respect.

This workshop comes within the efforts of Regional Studies Center to promote awareness and strengthen a culture of peace at the University of Mosul, in line with the university’s role in rebuilding individuals and society.
