Regional Studies Center has organized a seminar titled (Turks and European Modernity: A Historical Study of the Intellectual Attitudes of Turks to Europe) by Dr. Hamid Mohammad Taha Al-Suwaidany, Head of Historical and Cultural Studies Department, in the presence of the researchers of the Center on Wednesday, October 2, 2019.Al-Suwaidany indicated that the topic of Turks and European modernity is of great significance as it deals with the experience of the integration of Turkish Muslims within the European civilization. The research has been divided into four sections; the first one talked about the Turks before the establishment of the Ottoman Empire, while the second section covered the subject of the Turks in the Ottoman period. The third section involved the Turkish nationalists and modernity during Mustafa Kemal Ataturk’s period. The research was concluded with the discussion of the stage of political Islam (Justice and Development Party) and the determination to join the European Union. The research topic was discussed in detail by researchers of the Center which contributed to enriching and evaluating the research.
