Dangers of Recent Seismic Activity in Istanbul… A Panel Discussion at the Remote Sensing Center

The Remote Sensing Center at the University of Mosul organized a scientific seminar entitled “Recent Seismic Activity in Istanbul” on Thursday, May 8, 2025, attended by a number of researchers, specialists, and those interested in earth sciences and remote sensing.
The seminar was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Alaa Nabil Hamdoun, who discussed the causes and repercussions of the recent earthquake in Istanbul. He reviewed available seismic data, the spatial distribution of previous tremors in the region, and their impact on infrastructure and population. He also highlighted the importance of using remote sensing techniques and geographic information systems (GIS) in monitoring seismic activity and analyzing its future risks.
The session featured scientific contributions and constructive discussions among attendees, during which views were exchanged on the importance of awareness and preparedness to confront such natural phenomena and the need to enhance scientific cooperation in this field.
