Field Visit to the Department of Forests and Desertification Control/Nineveh Forest Nursery

As part of the Remote Sensing Center at the University of Mosul’s plans to support government institutions with specialized digital maps, and under the direct supervision of the center’s acting director, Assistant Professor Dr. Abdul Rahman Ramzi Qaba’, a team headed by Assistant Professor Dr. Taha Abdul Hadi Taha, along with a number of center faculty members, conducted a field visit to the Department of Forests and Desertification/Nineveh Forest Nursery on Monday, June 23, 2025.
The visit aimed to review the locations of the fields, canopies, and seedling beds, in preparation for the development of a specialized spatial map using remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS) techniques. This map will contribute to supporting the Department’s management in its work to manage the trees and shrubs in its possession. The visit also included accurate field mapping of buildings, facilities, and agricultural sites using GPS devices. This was used to compare and subsequently analyze the data with modern satellite imagery, enhancing data accuracy and serving the study’s objectives scientifically and practically.
This step comes within the framework of contributing to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 13 (Climate Action) and Goal 15 (Life on Land), by supporting efforts to combat desertification and preserve vegetation cover.
