The Remote Sensing Center at the University of Mosul Participates in a Scientific Conference in Karbala

The Remote Sensing Center, represented by Assistant Professor Dr. Abdul Rahman Ramzi Qabaa, Acting Director of the Center, and Professor Sabah Hussein Ali, Continuing Education Officer, participated in the Ninth International Arbaeen Scientific Conference, held in Karbala, chaired by the University of Baghdad, on August 18-19, 2025. The conference brought together a select group of researchers and academics from various Iraqi and foreign universities.
The conference featured a scientific paper titled:
“Spatial-Temporal Distribution of Particulate Matter in Holy Karbala Governorate by Using Remote Sensing Dataset and GIS.”
The research examined the monitoring and analysis of the temporal and spatial distribution of suspended particulate matter (PM2.5) using satellite data and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) techniques, to determine pollution levels and the most affected areas during religious pilgrimages and mass gatherings. This study comes within the framework of employing modern technology and remote sensing techniques to monitor air quality and reduce environmental pollution, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and well-being (Goal 3), sustainable cities and communities (Goal 11), and climate action (Goal 13).
