On the Occasion of International Geodiversity Day – The Remote Sensing Center Visits Gifted Schools

The Remote Sensing Center at the University of Mosul organized a scientific and awareness activity represented by a field visit to both Al-Murabieen Secondary School for Gifted Students and Al-Muntaliq Private Elementary School on October 6, 2025, in celebration of International Geodiversity Day.

A series of lectures were delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdulrahman Ramzi Quba, Prof. Dr. Rayan Ghazi Thanon, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Abeer Adel Mohammed, focusing on “Geodiversity and the Latest Techniques in Its Study.”

During the visit, simplified explanations were presented to students about the concepts of geodiversity, its role in natural resource extraction, and ways to benefit from Earth’s resources. The lectures also introduced the principles of remote sensing and its modern applications, including the use of drones and artificial intelligence in data acquisition and interpretation to serve geological purposes.

This activity comes as part of the Remote Sensing Center’s programs supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—particularly Goal 13: Climate Action and Goal 15: Life on Land—and reaffirms the University of Mosul’s commitment to promoting scientific culture and environmental awareness across all segments of society.
