Remote Sensing Center Activates the “Grass of Mercy” Initiative to Promote the Green University Concept

In line with the University of Mosul’s vision to strengthen the concept of a green university and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, the Remote Sensing Center has activated the voluntary initiative “Grass of Mercy,” launched by the University Presidency, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Abdulrahman Ramzi Qubaa, Director of the Center, and Dr. Taha Abdulhadi, Head of the Center’s Afforestation Committee.

On Wednesday, October 28, 2025, the Center organized a wide awareness-raising tree-planting campaign carrying an environmental message aimed at promoting community awareness about the importance of afforestation and environmental sustainability, as well as instilling the culture of a green university among students and the Center’s staff.

The campaign included a field activity to plant trees in the university gardens, with the participation of the Center’s staff and several volunteers. Various types of trees were planted to expand green spaces and improve the university’s environment.

This initiative comes as part of the Remote Sensing Center’s commitment to supporting Goal 13 (Climate Action) and Goal 15 (Life on Land) of the Sustainable Development Goals, reaffirming its role in fostering responsible environmental behavior and contributing to the creation of a sustainable and human- and nature-friendly university environment.
